Put the reviews side by side, the good ones and the bad ones, and the program they describe is the same:

• A resume writer. Even unhappy clients say the resume work was good. A strong executive resume has real value; on the open market, a good writer costs somewhere between several hundred and a couple of thousand dollars.
• LinkedIn profile work. Useful if yours is thin. Also available for a few hundred dollars from plenty of good freelancers.
• A weekly check-in call. Reviewers describe a coach or project manager asking who they've contacted this week, rather than handing them contacts.
• "Networking" calls. Introductions to other people, which unhappy clients say were often other job seekers, or people without hiring authority at their level.
• Coaching. Some clients call it transformational. Others say it felt read from a script, or that promised coaching never materialized.

Priced separately on the open market, those services typically come to around $1,500 to $3,500. Reviewers report paying up to $15,500. Whether the difference is worth it is the central question for anyone considering the firm.

The owner replied to that review saying its records show a completed résumé and document package, LinkedIn work, two outreach mailings, regular meetings with a project manager and 17 documented referrals, and that it is reviewing the concerns with its team.

"I could not have been more disappointed with this company and truly feel as though I was lied to and hustled. I was clear from the beginning, that I did not have a large network of individuals in my 'Circle of influence' and that if this process depended on that, they should tell me immediately. I was assured that was not the case." … "I paid them $8,500 for them to redo my resume and then tell me to 'Start networking on LinkedIn' with virtually no assistance after they received my money. The firm disputed that complaint at length on the BBB, listed 27 introductions it says it made, and pointed to its three-business-day cancellation window, after which the fee is non-refundable. Both sides are published on the BBB and worth reading in full.

A pattern runs through these reviews: different people, different years, different sites, and the same three words keep coming up: resume, LinkedIn, networking. None describes being put forward for a search.

Notably, the happiest clients describe the same deliverables as the unhappy ones: a resume, a LinkedIn profile, coaching and networking. The difference is whether those things felt worth the price. For some people they clearly did. For the clients in the section above, they did not.

Two names: Browning Associates and Byron Associates

Here is a question worth asking. This is a firm that sells executives on being found. In its own words on the BBB: "The market does not reward passive excellence. It rewards visible, positioned excellence." Yet it has no Google review profile under the name it sells under.

Upon further research, the firm has another name. Search Google Maps for "Browning Associates" and it opens a profile named Byron Associates, at the same address, carrying the firm's Google reviews. For most businesses, the Google profile carries the name customers know, because that is where people look before they buy. Here, the name on the contract and the name on the review profile are different. Doesn't that seem odd?

The Browning Associates BBB profile lists "Byron Associates, Inc." as an alternate name. In a September 2026 reply to a Google review, the firm explained:

"Byron Associates, Inc. is the legal corporation that does business as Browning Associates. That is why you may see the Byron Associates name associated with our Google reviews."

That explains the connection, and doing business under a trade name is common and legal. What it doesn't explain is why the Google profile uses the corporate name rather than the one clients are sold. The question seems fair to ask before signing: why would a firm keep its Google reviews under a name its clients never see? If the firm offers an answer, it will be added here.

To be fair, there may be an ordinary explanation for all of it. The firm says Byron Associates, Inc. is simply its legal name. It has said publicly that at least one negative Google reviewer was never a client, and businesses do sometimes receive mistaken or fake reviews. And plenty of clients say they are happy. Maybe the firm is every bit as good as its best reviews say. Maybe it isn't. The public record can't settle that, which is why both sides are on this page.

On leaving a review

In its own words on the BBB, the firm says its client agreement contains this:

"Section 7 of the agreement also requires that any concerns or disputes regarding services be brought directly to Browning Associates management for resolution before pursuing other remedies. The agreement specifically states that clients agree not to utilize external agencies or public platforms to attempt to resolve disputes or defame the firm."

The one thing every executive should know first: in real executive search, the hiring company pays the fee, never the candidate. A retained search firm is hired by an employer to fill a specific role. If you're the one writing the check, you're not in a search. You're buying career services. That can be a fine purchase, but it should be priced like one.

Five questions to ask before paying anyone five figures:

• Which searches will I be put forward for, and who is your client on each? A real search firm can name them. If the answer is "positioning," "branding" or "opening doors," you have your answer.
• Show me a sample list of introductions, with titles. Are they hiring decision-makers at your level, or people in the same boat as you?
• What exactly is in the price? Get every deliverable itemized in writing, including any interview coaching you're promised.
• What happens if I'm unhappy? Read the cancellation and dispute sections before you sign, not after.
• How long do I have to cancel? In the complaint above, the firm cited a three-business-day window. Know yours.

And be careful in the first few months after a layoff. That's when you most want someone to make the uncertainty stop, and when you're most likely to pay too much for it.

Who might it be right for?

Based on the reviews, someone who has spent decades at one company and genuinely doesn't know where to start with a modern job search (resumes that get past software screens, LinkedIn, networking) may get real value from having it all done for them. Several of the happy reviews above read exactly like that.

Executives who already know how to do those things may find it an expensive way to get them done.
