Volume method worked out. Say your average weekday shift books six vehicles: two express exterior details at roughly 1.0–1.5 labor hours each, three full interior-and-exterior packages at 2.5–3.0 hours, and one paint correction at 6–8 hours. Total labor demand is roughly 17–22 hours. On an 8-hour shift that is 2.1–2.75 people. Add the standard buffer — 30 minutes of setup and teardown per detailer, a 30-minute unpaid meal break, and roughly 10% slack for walk-ins and re-dos — and you schedule three. Do it three days a week and you have burned $1,500–$2,300 a month with nothing to show for it — plus the morale drag of people standing around, which reliably degrades work quality and invites the shortcut that becomes a re-do. Understaffing is worse and harder to see.
