How Do I Score My Reps on Discovery Quality?

"That Call Was Great!" — Until I Scored It on a Rubric

I've been in revenue leadership for 25 years, and for the first 15 of them, I graded discovery the same way everyone does: I'd lean back after a call, nod, and say, "Yeah, that felt good." Then I'd give a vague coaching note about "digging deeper" and move on. The problem? Two managers would score the same call differently, and the rep had no idea what "better" actually looked like.

Here's what I learned the hard way: you stop grading discovery by gut feel after a call and start scoring it on a defined rubric. Let me walk you through exactly how that works — and the tools that make it stick.


The Method: A Weighted Multi-KPI Scorecard
